Pfaffschwende is a small village in the scenic Eichsfeld district of Thuringia, close to Flinsberg, Germany’s geographical centre. It lies at the foot of the Gobert hills near the border between Hesse and Thuringia. Before 1990, Germany was divided and East German border soldiers were stationed in the barracks.
Traces of this period can be found throughout the area. Just cross the road from the barracks to enjoy a forest walk, with a good chance of spotting deer or foxes. Below is a selection of nearby attractions.
